With something like this, I'm surprised that no one bothered to critique it... AT ALL!!!

For starters, the color scheme is definitely a plus side to this work. Not exactly the best one which we'd associate with hell, but definitely one which hides a subtle amount of darkness behind it. What makes it better is the lighting... The patterns of the interconnecting spineal ribs (taking it into consideration as more of an anatomical tissue rather than as a cartilage contortion) with its subtle indication of circular redemption makes it VERY significant.

The lighting from the farthest corner of this spine also provides a fundamental aspect of "purgatory" pouring through the veins of the contortions holding together the spinal formation. Its certainly interesting to note that the spinal becomes more and more prominent (with the red paddings over the ash greenish leaves) as one moves away from the orange source of light.

BUT

This is where the problems start to arise. With the presence of these red paddings comes the idea that hell is retribution raised to infinity. THAT... is an understatement; Hell is waking up with fire in one's head while the heart refuses to breathe, on the day that you have to go to the hospital to take care of your dying mother, whom holds the investments and money for which reason you could support your siblings who're lazy and futile towards achieving anything in life, and would rather rape and pillage than be of assistance; Hell is.... holding ice in one's hand because there's no other source of water around the vicinity, and the only place where water is present is dirty, filthy, and tastes like urine; Hell...

Hell, no doubt, is spinal, but it isn't merciful.

For which reason, another aspect which I would like to point out (relative to the "hell" point I made earlier) is the absence of any form of torture; Where's the indication that the spines are bathed in fire, ash, or blood? How can one presume that this hell spinal is, in essence, a damnation wrought from the vulgar senescence of humanity's pus, when the colors of the leaves indicate it is mere neglect?

Hell's spinal, in retribution, would therefore be kept in fluid shape by... neglect?

Not that I'm against the idea (its thoughtful, and definitely something very unique to think about) but its something which should be explored further.

Long story cut short, its good - Its something unique and deserves to be seen - but I'm looking forward to more from this series.

Conclusion: turn this into a series of drawings, which explore the concept of "hell". THEN, it would allow more maturity to prosper from both the artist and the viewer. After all, art is what we make it out to be - some more than others.

Oh, and before I end this:

I gave a low score for Originality because I as a viewer, had my hopes too high. It doesn't mean that the artist himself is to blame for anything or that the artist is deficient in his imagination or charm - its more of a bias of the viewer. In essence, it should be ignored... unless the artist himself considers otherwise...
