Thanks for sharing. Upon reducing it to it's components, I found you used nothing more than a gaussian blur and lazysusan. I have apparently greatly underestimated the usefulness of the latter transform.

you know I feel a special love for lazysusan :aww:  this one is probably among the best I ever saw in this style, mighty highlights and intriguing patterns :excited:

just a little (but I hope useful) tip... as far as I know, escher works exactly like linear if you don't set escher_beta variable to something different than 0 :) so in this case you didn't need escher to get this result, it's like you made it with linear

yep I know :)
it's there only because when I start this flame i had in mind to use some escher, and then I remove the variable and add continue to play with it :)
As it's still a linear (without variables) I don't remind the fact that i haven't remove it :) (but it's still usefull for coloring :) )

And i'm really really really glad you like it Chiara

how do you get it to look so flat and how do you get a black background in the pic.
"what i mean by flat is how you get it to look non dusty around it."

High quality render + pre_blur value :)
20K quality :)

What render settings did you use?

Like density, filter raidus, oversample. I seem to be having issues popping out a polished image in apop. Creating interesting fractals isn't the issue. It's rendering. My machine isn't terrible... it's like 3 gigs of ram, good video card, and a 3.something GHz processor...

I've been so lost and aggrivated why everything looks like the crappy quality preview in apop, even though I've tried teaking the numbers like crazy.

Thanks!

I usually set my render to 1,6:1 ratio (depends of the flame) with 20K quality, 0.8 radius, oversample 1.

For the polish aspect like the one of this dev this is have nothing to do with render (at least just a bit) it's simply the gaussian_blur value and the variations weights which will create the polish aspect.

All variations like blur, gaussian_blur, pre_blur are really sensitive value to keep an eye on, cause it can really great grain or crappy flame :(

Thanks! I'll give those approximate values a try. I switched from some old 3D hack version to the 7x-14 that was released not too long ago, and got a significantly better render using near-default values in just a few minutes (at 1600x900 resolution, a rotational flame that takes up nearly all the viewing area). It kinda made me angry and need coffee after seeing that. So maybe with this version of Apop I won't have the issues I WAS having.

I usually do some focused post-render editing in something like photoshop to maybe add some blur or adjust my values and colors in a little more controlled environment, but that's about all I do in there.

Sadly, I still have a lot of really old plug-ins and scripts... so I'll have to look for new plugins and see if my scripts work (or at least re-write them so they get the same effect...) Maybe if I have luck, I'll offer up requests, but, we'll see. >.> First... I need to just play and create... because... I've been so Apop-deprived. D:
