Fractal Are NATURE Artwork

Yeah, the first real application we could found for fractal is simply the nature. A lot’s of things around us are fractals.

Look at this Romanesco (a cross between broccoli and Cauliflower, which accentuates the great fractal spiral patterns on the top. Tastes a-ok too)

This was one of the first discovered “natural” fractal.
But a lot’s of naturals fractals had been discover since,

"Sea shell animals" could develop a fractal pattern too :

Even Leafs or thunderstrikes are fractals.

Strike Two by SonjaPhotography Lightning Phoenix by nightmares06

As an example, this guy has been hit by a thunder strike which leave him forever a fractal on his back (actually this is the spread of the thunder :meow:)

Even at home YOU could create a natural fractal with something you all have near you.

Take a CD, put it in the microwave for 3-4 sec MAX and you will see the CD surface starting making sparkles then it will stop (it make sparkle for max : 1sec, that's really quick) when there's no more sparkles STOP THE MICROWAVE !

Please be carefull when trying this experience, I will be in no way guilty of any damages that may come with this experience !

When you will put it off you will see another "natural" fractal like this one :

So now take a closer look around you and you will found a thousand of others wonderful natural fractal.

I don't think the broken CD is a fractal.

Funny how fractal-focused news articles never mention what a fractal is.

It is.
And I don't mention what is a fractal, cause the main definition is available a bit everywhere on dA, and only enter fractal on a wiki to find it ;)

It has one of the most important properties of a fractal, self-similarity. If you take a closer look at the crackles, they have a repating pattern identical to the bigger crackle. It doesn't need to be a perfect minature copy, it is still defined as a fractal.

There are a lot of articles which explain what a fractal is, we don't need to repeat ourselves;)

I know what a fractal is. :B

The crackles aren't exactly a self-repeating structure.
Then again, I learned fractals in maths.

They don't need to be identical. Not even a mandelbrot set has exact self-similar And you can't use Euclidean geometry to explain the pattern, another property. A random fractal, but still a fractal. But can you give an example on why you think a broken cd doesn't qualify as a fractal?

I wouldn't be so surprised if some day (in our life time), someone will discover/demonstrate that everything in nature has a structure based on fractals, compound or composite structures, nested or over nested and so on. Nothing is casual...
